This sensor is powered by its own solar panel and the receiver is powered by the USB port where it is plugged in to transmit the wind data to the PC. It emulates a virtual com port that can be used by any navigation or weather station software for use on a boat or on land: harbour master or marina's office, sailing club-house, office building, or at home!
Wireless Ultrasonic Wind Sensor comes with a USB interface consisting of a receiver and a cable with a USB plug. The maximum range in free field is 200 meters. Best performance is obtained with the receiver being in a 50 m range from the wind sensor. Note that radio signals and antenna performance can be affected by some construction materials (carbon fibre, aluminium, steel...). A clearance of at least 10 cm is required to completely eliminate the ground effect from Conductive Materials. Signal reception may meet difficulties in some cases, depending of surrounding equipments. Please contact customer support for advice.
Simply plug the receiver’s cable to one of the USB ports on your PC. Your software will recognise the wind data coming in NMEA0183 format via a virtual COM port automatically emulated.
